Prime Minister Narendra Modi will soon reach Rome for the G20 Summit in what is the first visit by an Indian PM in almost 12 years.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will soon reach Rome for the G20 Summit in what is the first visit by an Indian PM in almost 12 years. PM Modi will reach Rome around 9.30 (IST) on Friday.

Indian ambassador to Italy, Neena Malhotra said, “PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Rome, beginning tomorrow, will be his first visit to the Italian capital after assuming office. It’ll also be the first visit by an Indian PM to Rome in almost 12 years.”

Hours after reaching Rome, PM Modi will be visiting the Gandhi statue around 3.30 pm (IST) and later hold a bilateral meet with Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi at 5.30 pm (IST).

Ahead of his Italy visit to attend the G20 Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that in Rome he will hold discussions on global economic and health recovery from the pandemic. PM Modi will be visiting Rome and the Vatican City from October 29-31 and later travel to the UK.

In Glasgow, UK, PM Modi will talk on the need to comprehensively address climate change issues, including equitable distribution of carbon space.

“In Rome, I will attend the 16th G20 Leaders’ Summit, where I will join other G20 leaders in discussions on global economic and health recovery from the pandemic, sustainable development, and climate change,” PM Modi said.

PM Modi embarked on his journey early on Friday morning with the PMO tweeting a picture of him boarding a plane for Italy.

In his statement before leaving, he said the meeting will allow the G20 to take stock of the current global situation and exchange ideas on how the grouping can be an engine for strengthening economic resilience and building back inclusively and sustainably from the pandemic.
